Kenyan High Court Suspends Worldcoin Over Regulatory Issues

Kenya’s High Court has delivered a decisive blow to World Foundation, the entity formerly known as Worldcoin, by ordering the immediate suspension of its biometric data collection activities. Justice Roselyne Aburili ruled that the company’s practices violated constitutional privacy protections, mandating the deletion of all Kenyan user data—including iris scans and facial images—within seven days under government supervision.

The court found World Foundation in breach of Kenya’s data protection laws for failing to conduct a legally required impact assessment. This judgment sets a precedent for biometric data governance in emerging markets, potentially influencing global crypto regulations. The ruling prohibits any future collection or processing of biometric identifiers by the organization in the country.
